First, let’s talk about the obvious: the view.
Traditional mirrors have blind spots. We all know that. But with a digital mirror, those are practically eliminated. The camera, usually mounted on the rear of the vehicle, provides a much wider field of vision. I can see so much more of what’s happening behind me, especially when changing lanes or backing up. It’s not just about seeing cars; it’s also about seeing pedestrians or cyclists that might be in those tricky spots.
And it’s not just the width, it’s also the clarity. My old mirror was often useless in rainy conditions. Water droplets would blur the glass, making it difficult to see vehicles behind me. But digital mirrors have lenses that prevent fogging or misting, and they are better protected from the elements.
The improvement in low light conditions is also impressive. The camera sensors need very little light to produce a clear image, making night driving much safer. Plus, I no longer get blinded by the headlights of the cars behind me. The digital display automatically filters out bright light, something my old mirror could never do.

Then there’s the issue of obstructions

I’ve also discovered some unexpected advantages
- Reduced Glare: The auto-dimming feature on my new mirror is a lifesaver at night. It eliminates the need to manually adjust the mirror when driving at night and makes a huge difference. The system can dim the mirror proportionately to the amount of light that reaches it.
- Recording Capabilities: My digital rearview mirror is also a dashcam. I can record from both the front and the back of my vehicle, which can provide valuable evidence in case of an accident. It also has a parking mode that will start recording if it detects any motion while I’m parked.
- Enhanced Ergonomics: The digital mirror has a very well-defined range of functionality to accommodate all sorts of driving scenarios. I have improved viewing regardless of obstructions within the car and the mirror helps relieve stress and keeps me comfortable while traveling.
- Fuel Savings: The digital mirror is much more aerodynamic than traditional mirrors, which results in fuel savings.

Of course, there are a few things to consider

My final verdict
